Three Things to Live Life to the Fullest
From: Huck. To: The Ones I Love.
There are a few things I want to tell people about life. Most would say it is to live life to the fullest. In my eyes, there are three things that would help you live that way. They are to love your friends and respect them, believe in what you want to believe in, and the third is to do what you believe is right. Even though I do not always accomplish all of these things, I still believe in them and I hope that you will learn to follow these three basic concepts.
When my Pap came to visit me, he was drunk and looking for my money. I sold my money to Judge Thatcher so Pap wouldn’t be able to get it. Pap still took me in to live with him and watch over me. I enjoyed the first few days with him. This allowed me to be away from all of the rules of Miss Watson. It didn’t take long for things to change. “Then the old man got to cussing and cussed everything and everybody he could think of, and then cussed them all over again to make sure he hadn't skipped any, and after that he polished off with a kind of a general cuss all round, including a considerable parcel of people which he didn't know the names of, and so called them what's-his-name when he got to them, and went right along with his cussing.” (pg. 25) Because of this, I escaped and faked my death, convincing most people that I was dead. I did this because I believed it was the right thing to do.
Jim, who was a slave, escaped about the same time that I faked my death. We then decided to hide together. During this time, because of my love and respect for Jim, I honored Jim’s beliefs. When Jim started to explain the story of King Solomon and the mother and son, how wise Solomon was, I listened, but I still argued about my interpretation of the story, I eventually gave up. I could tell that Jim’s beliefs would not be changed by what I was saying. “I never seen such a nigger, if he got a notion in his head once, there warn’t no getting it out again.” (pg. 78) I knew I needed to

"The only penalty of telling the truth, of telling the simple truth, in answer to a series of plain questions" (page 23 narrative) what this quote means to me is that no matter what racial segregation will always continue. He was punished for answering truthfully to questions thinking that he might have gotten away easy. Unfortunately it didn't happen. The second important quote is "The whisper that my master was my father" in this quote he is expressing how he feels like he has been working as a slave for an unconsidering long time and has now believed that the whisper of his master is his…

    2. To Brother Peter Gideon is a young man. Since he is a younger man he can learn more than he can;”Just fill you up, like bucket drawing water from the well.” (p 19) He can show the white people that he is not ignorant. But Gideon felt as though they would just laugh at him “and mock this nigger” (p 19). Once Brother Peter told him “take that dollar and buy a book,” Gideon felt as though that he could go to the Convention and make a change.…

In doing this he is solidifying his beliefs and demonstrating his position on what true Christianity is, word from the bible and an inherent knowledge between right and wrong. However, Douglass wasn’t fortunate enough to live in a place where Christianity was seen in this sense. He connects religious and Biblical knowledge to his feelings about the horrific nature of slavery and considers the way the children of the South will grow up with “fathers most frequently their own masters” (24). An instance that furthermore demonstrates how far separated the two types of Christianity are comes about in an altercation between a slave and her owner, Thomas Auld. As Auld whipped a “disobedient” owner, he quoted the bible saying “He that knoweth his master’s will and doeth it not shall be beaten with many stripes” (Douglass, 68). This misinterpretation of the Bible is evident and Douglass refers to “the religion of the South [as] a mere covering for the most horrid crimes—a justifier of the most appalling barbarity…a shelter under…which the darkest, foulest, grossest, and most infernal deeds of slaveholders find the strongest protection” (Douglass, 86). He explains how any Biblical teaching can be contorted and changed to satisfy the wants of the…

African Americans and Native Americans throughout history have suffered many unmentionable atrocities at the hands of the ‘whites’, whether from eviction of their ancestral lands to the evils of slavery. In Morrison’s Song of Solomon, the Dead family inherited their surname through the ignorance of a ‘white’ man and lost their patriarch at the hands of another ‘white’ man. In contrast to Morrison’s Song of Solomon, Silko’s The Ceremony, Tayo’s people have been forced to evolve due to the invasion of ‘whites’ on their ancestral lands and infiltration into their culture. Consequently, Morrison and Silko reveal through their protagonist that change occurs most conveniently when it has been beneficial to the ‘whites’.…

We can build off our success to enhance not only for our own lives, but the lives of those who surround us. We can grow and learn from those who came before us. Their mistakes and triumphs can serve as lessons for all, especially future generations. We must be able to look to others for guidance, which in turn, amplifies our own lives. They are the “trees” that we branch off and grow from. By grasping every lesson and opportunity, we live deliberately and the fruits we bear become abundant. For many, living deliberately can mean doing well in school to shape a future of prosperity and having a well educated background. It can also mean taking risks and fulfilling your life to reach its greatest potential in a creative manner. No matter the goal the person creates for themselves, it all has the same basic beginning. Living deliberately is based on fluidity, not the act of being concrete. Life changes at a constant rate, and we must be willing to alter our views and goals to fit what life provides…

Make good decisions. Do the right thing, no matter who is watching. Those words have been repeated and instilled in my mind since I was a young child. My parents always harped on doing the right thing, and making good choices, because some decisions made at an early age can follow you into adulthood. Unfortunately, sometimes making a wrong decision only helps you to learn from the mistake. When I was 15 years old, my friend *Alyssa Brown (Pseudonym) was raped. She was my best friend and someone I care deeply about. We played volleyball together on the same team, had breakfast at the diner every Sunday, and watched movies in my basement every weekend. Like any relationship, we had our differences. At that age, many of my friends were maturing at dissimilar rates, and it was confusing to me some of the changes that were happening to their attitudes and opinions. Alyssa had an older sister *Lindsey, who was 19 at the time, and who wasn’t particularly the best behaved; she had been arrested a few times and needless to say didn’t surround herself with the best company. Alyssa couldn’t help who her sister brought around the house, and neither could I—although now I wish I could have.…

There is no better way to understand an event than to experience it first-hand. History is an imperfect thing, and as stories are passed down, people forget their true meaning. In “The Witness”, Katherine Anne Porter’s “Uncle Jimbilly” has experienced the horrors of slavery personally, and is frustrated when children of the next generation do not fully understand and respect the topic. The way Porter describes these characters subtly shows the reader their feelings toward each other.…

" Life is a gift and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more" says Anthony Robbins. To be able to provide my family and myself with sincerity and dedication, by being ambitious, committed, focused, and whole hearted. And how I go about doing that is to be hard working and determined in everything I do. How I'm doing that is by going to school to focus on my career in Justice Administrative in digital forensics so I can also help people. The four most important lessons that I have learned this season are, have to assemble a helmet, how a football practice is run, how a football team travels, and how important an equipment staff is to a football team. The first lesson is how to assemble a helmet. Every game this season we wore either a different helmet of changed the decals on our most notable white helmets. Having the ability to say on my resume when applying for jobs in the football industry that I can assemble a helmet is extremely important. I know how to take a facemask off, how to put a new one on, and the most important aspect of a helmet are the decals. When the game is on TV it is extremely important to have decals that look clean and that are all placed the same spot…
