Indeed, this popular view of what mathematics is, and what is required to be good at it, is extremely prevalent; yet it would be laughed at by most professional mathematicians, some of whom rather like to boast of their ineptitude when it comes to totalling a column of numbers....Yet ... it is not the mathematics of the accountant that is of most interest. Rather, it is ... abstract structures and everyday intuition and experience” (p.173, Barrow).
2.1 Mathematical Propositions
2.1.1 Mathematics consist of A Priori Propositions (theorems)
We know mathematical propositions (or theorems) to be true independently of any particular experiences. No one ever checks empirically that, for example, 364.112 + 112.364 = 476.476 by counting objects of those numbers separately, adding them together, and then counting the result. The techical term to describe this independence of experiences is to say that the propositions are a priori. Therefore we say that mathematical propositions are a priori propositions.
2.1.2 Universality
When mathematical propositions are made, they are assumed to be true for ever. It is assumed that a constant (we call it !) = Circumference / Diameter for a circle, and that it will be true forever and true everywhere in the universe.
2.1.3 The contradictory of a mathematical statement is necessarily false
We can say that “2 + 2 = 3” is not only false, it is necessarily false because “2 + 2 = 4” . Of course, if “3” is used to denote the number “4”, then we have in essence 2 + 2 = 4.

    Mathematics can be clearly defined as the knowledge to know how to solve something which is a form of declarative knowledge which is factual information stored in memory and known to be static in nature. There is no possible way to say that 2+2 is not equal to 4 which is completely unbiased because one cannot reason for the answer being 17 as that is clearly not true. The bias here comes along which deducing the BEST way to attain this value. One student may insist that the use of a calculator is the best way to find that the answer is 4 while another insists that mental math is the best while a third can be set on the idea that writing it down is the way to go.     Arithmetic is the ABC of math. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are the basics of math and every math operation known to humankind. In one way or another, every equation, graph, and an enormous amount of other things can be broken down into the ABC's of math, the four basic operations. As people say, math is a language, and addition subtraction, multiplication, and division are its alphabet, along with the number line as well. The properties are basically, proven ways to apply the mechanics of arithmetic into certain situations. You can usually find these situations within an equation. Some properties are much more basic and common then others; consequently, they pop up more often then others. For example, the reflexive property of equality, probably the most basic property there is. This property simply states that a number equals itself (a=a). This property is so fundamental that every time you do anything with a number, you see this property come up. When solving a multiple step equation, the only way we can really know that a number, if left alone from one step to the next has stayed the same is because of the reflexive property. This property allows us to establish that 1=1 and anywhere that that specific number comes up, its value is equal to every other number written the same way, "1." This is connected to the mechanics of arithmetic in the sense that all arithmetic operations assume that every number labeled "1" has a value of one. If you multiply 1 with 2 the "1" has the same value, of one, as it does in any other operation done with that specific number, "1". This is the most simple, broken down, and basic concept of math, this property allows us to always make the assumption that a "1" we use in one operation has the same value of a "1" we use in another, so that we can know the set value; otherwise, every number would be a variable.
