Tv Show Modern Family

The quite popular T.V. show, Modern Family is a program about the daily life of a family consisting of Jay Pritchett, his new and younger wife Gloria, their sons, Jay’s son and daughter, Mitch and Claire and their families. All three families are very different, but all come together as one, big, happy, unit. They go through the good and hard times together which brings them closer during every situation or dilemma. Living in Jay’s house other than Jay, are Gloria, Manny and Joe. Manny’s original father is from Columbia, where Gloria is originally from as well. However, Joe is Jay’s direct son from Gloria. In this particular family in the show, Jay is hands down the head of the household. He has the providing job and takes care of the family
Claire (Jay’s daughter) raises her family with her husband Phil and together, they show the struggle of how hard it is to raise three completely different children. Mitch (Jay’s son) represents a change in present day society. He is raising his adopted daughter with his husband, Cam. Gloria has no real point to the program if you look at it in a deeper sense. By what she wears, the viewer might be able to figure out that she is just eye candy for the viewers. They often have her wearing clothes that show lots of skin and focus the camera on her on certain angles, making her look very attractive. This seems to be classic Hollywood trying to receive as many viewers as they can. It seems quite traditional that they do this type of thing. As we talked about in class, other movies that do this are Batman vs. Superman featuring Wonder Woman and Transformers. Wonder Woman in the movie is, like Gloria, wearing limited amounts of clothes and the camera seems to focus on her a lot. In Transformers, the camera literally starts at the female character’s feet and works its way up in slow motion. This can often be very damaging to a point of view towards women.
