According to Heather Collins, successful thinking is “carefully reasoning about and actively engaging with your environment” and also “asking lots of questions”. Collins tells a childhood story about her as a young girl. She explains that “[she asked her] mom too many questions [and] asking all those questions when [she] was young was actually a good thing”. Collins states that constantly being curious and asking questions as a child is what made her a successful thinker today. Successful thinking is different from critical thinking because critical thinking is thinking reflectively and productively. When one thinks critically they evaluate evidence, but successful thinking is engaging with the world around you instead of analyzing from…

Thinking is needed in order for improvement and advancement. Without it we would still be stuck as cavemen or probably extinct. In the story Thinkers Anonymous: Do You Think Too Much? the protagonist is having serious difficulty with thinking too much. Thinking too much is not always detrimental, there are benefits to it. For example it leads me to do great analysis’ on texts, which leads to believe that is probably why the protagonist ran to the library. The concept of people saying to not think so much reminds me of the book The Giver by Lois Lowry, because both have societies where thinking a lot is frowned upon. Which brings to mind the issue of people being subconsciously controlled to not think so they just do as they are told. It baffles…

What is thinking? According to Gary Kirby and Jeffrey Goodpaster, “Thinking does not have a clear definition and experts do not know the answer” (2007). Thinking can be a way of communicating, writing that gives clarity, and dialogue that gives validation. According to the Encarta Dictionary, thinking is defined as a use of the mind to form thoughts; and opinions or conclusions arrived. However, misthinking is the opposite of clear thinking which results in confusion and can lead to costly conclusions (2007).…

One must first understand that thinking is the counterpart of critical thinking. According to Paul & Elder (2006) “the best thinkers think about their thinking, they are highly purposeful, they have intellectual “tools” that they use to raise the quality of their thinking, they distinguish their thoughts from their feelings and desires, they routinely take thinking apart, and they routinely evaluate thinking – determining its strengths and weaknesses” (Critical Thinking, page xiv – xv). They must also learn to communicate their thoughts through language, images, or even art forms.…

There are different types of ways to think. There are things we do every day without much thinking, such as blinking, waking up, walking and so on. Other things we do in life may require more thought such as driving, what to wear, or what to say. Then there are the instances when your thinking has a purpose. According to Dr. Paul and Dr. Elder (2008), “Purposeful thinking requires both critical and creative thinking.”(p.5), you have to be open-minded to alternatives to solving problems and be able to accept that consequences of what choice that has been made.…

. In “the sources of happiness” his holiness the Dalai Lama and Howard Cutler said “true happiness relates more to the mind and heart. Happiness that depends on mainly on physical pleasure is unstable, one day it’s there , the next day it may not” (30). Now as that clearly states, pleasure is something that can bring you temporary happiness but it only last for a certain time and it may not always be there, unlike happiness, once you reach that point in your life it will always be there, well that might not always be the case because you never know what the future is holding for us, but for now that feeling of joy you have is something alot wish to…

Do you like what you see? 6) Put together a plan of action for the achievement of your outcome. While it may seem like a lot of effort simply to decide what you really want, going through these steps at the beginning helps you find potential obstacles which previously stopped you from moving forward. For example, if you decide you want to join a gym and start exercising every day but you've forgotten you don't even own a car and just lost your job, that exercise plan might not work out right now. If you did join a gym, you'd end up not going and then you'd think you'd failed, yet it was the plan that failed, not you.…

Positive thinking is very important; I will consider it critically important if a person want to reach to the psychological comfort. Positive thinking means approaching life's challenges with a positive outlook. It does not necessarily mean avoiding or ignoring the bad things; instead, it involves making the most of potentially bad situations, trying to see the best in other people, and viewing yourself and your abilities in a positive light.…

There are many types of goals. Growing up, I always dreamed of being two things: a mother and a nurse. I am blessed to have two wonderful children ages 14 and 16 and have had the privilege of being able to be a stay-at-home mom during their younger years. Now that they are older and a bit more independent, I have decided to go back to school and fulfill my goal of earning my degree in Nursing. Throughout the years of growing and maturing, I have learned how important it is to have good morals, values, goals, a passion for something, and a good education.
