The second room entitled “Remembrance” mounts full-size black and white prints of these lost paintings. One could feel a palette of colors missing, and listening to the audio about each painting gets some life back into these ghostly…
For my visual analysis assignment I chose to go visit the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It has been an extremely long time since I last visited a museum. I took my twelve year old son with me to explore what the museum had to offer. We found the art to be very interesting, educational and unique. There were so many beautiful pieces throughout the museum that it was difficult trying to decide which one I wanted to base my visual analysis on.…
On Friday March the 18th, I attended an art exhibition at the Memphis College of Art. The exhibit consisted of two main artists. The two artists were Meghann Riepenhoff and Tim Andrews. Each artist display was completely different from each other. Even though the two displays were obviously different, the exhibit itself of each artist had the same theme.…
While all pieces of art have a purpose that represents the essence of the time period, some hold a larger grasp in the majority of the lives of others. For example, the catastrophic events that unraveled in the 1920’s have…
The art exhibit was a very nice change from what I have previously done for enrichment. I was able to expose myself to art, which I have never previously done. It was my first time at an art museum, and seeing famous artwork in person. Not only was I fortunate enough to see this exhibition while it was at the Museum of Fine Arts, I was able to see other amazing artwork that was on display from local artists. In all, I was grateful that I chose to do something different for a change and see a small part of the immense amount of art that is out there. I definitely will go down to the Museum again next time there is a major exhibit to expose myself to other forms of…
I think that artist don’t have to create so many beautiful pieces to make us remember it but to make it a history instead. Making their great pieces into history can give other generations some ideas of what had happened in the past and they should stop and observe every event that might be occurring on the painting. Pieces of work that artist make should be for our enjoyment and to remember what happened in the past and in this era. An example would be Altar to the Chases High School, 1987. (pg.59)…
On my visit to the Dallas Museum of Arts, I was stunned by so many different types of arts that ranged in the forms of sculptures to paintings in different eras and areas of the. One of the most visually stunning artworks I’ve witnessed is The Shepherd Faustulus Bringing Romulus and Remus to His Wife by Nicholas Mignard located in the Rococo section of the European Art floor.…
Discrimination is the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a 19 year old female named Mayella Ewell is accusing Tom Robinson an African- American for raping here and back then in the 1920s it wasn’t supposed to mess around with blacks. The question is Class, Gender ,and Race is mayella powerful? Mayella is powerful in race because whites are considered way better than negroes.…
Individuals associated with Dartmouth College and Princeton University created a study that deals with ironic effects of racial bias during interracial interaction. The study began off of the basis that individuals that have high levels of racial bias tend to regulate them selves when around others of another race. They often do this to make sure that their racial bias does not show. Individuals with low level of racial bias tended not to regulate themselves as much because they were more comfortable in their situation. Interestingly, researchers believed that individuals with high levels of racial bias were favored more by the opposite race. In order to confirm these hypotheses researchers created a study.…
In recent discussions of implicit racial bias, a controversial issue has been whether implicit racial bias is moral or immoral. On the one hand, some people argue that some people think implicit racial bias is moral and socially acceptable because those people with implicit racial bias are not directly hurting others. On the other hand, however, others argue that implicit racial bias is immoral, socially unacceptable and should not be tolerated under any circumstances. In the words of Daniel Kelly and Erica Roeddert, one of the main proponents, “obviously implicit racial bias is problematic insofar as it leads to harmful or unfair consequences” (Kelly and Roeddert 527). According to this view, implicit racial bias is problematic and dangerous…
According to the Oxford dictionary, a stereotype is “a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.” Racial biases and stereotypes are prevalent in the United States. They affect everyone and generally have a negative effect on how people are treated because of these prejudices. Stereotypes based on race or ethnicity impact people’s perceptions of others, affect how we treat each other, and inhibit racial equality.…
Racial connections between African-Americans and Asian-Americans have experienced both instances of solidarity and mistrust throughout histories of their encounters. Solidarity movements between the two groups existed, in an effort to combat U.S. discriminatory policies in the 20th century, as well as instances of racial tensions, such as African-American boycotts of Korean businesses in an effort to stand against racial discrimination. In an effort to secure resources and power, African-Americans and Asian-Americans have drifted apart in a racial divide. Asian and African-Americans, in their demand for resources and power, often collided in their interests. In the prospects of moving up the racial hierarchy, African-Americans and Asian-Americans…
In the passage Thomas Paine states that American government is fair-minded. However, there are an overwhelmingly large amount of examples that prove that corruption does indeed exist in America’s political system. One relatively recent example of corruption was the bribery involved Rand Paul’s presidential campaign in 2012. In this event Jesse Benton, Paul’s political director campaign manager admitted to paying senators in exchange for their endorsement towards their campaign (Ballhaus). This example of corruption disproves Paine’s claim that the government in the United Stated is unbiased and fair. In his book, Paine also claimed that, “There the poor are not oppressed, the rich are not privileged…. Their taxes are few, because their government…
Art up close and personal is a profound experience that is unique compared to looking at art through a textbook. Art can express emotion, have a political meaning, portray history, and bring people together as not only a community but a generation. Art can change a society, and that is one of the reasons I find art compelling. I can lose myself in one painting for hours; forgetting about the world around me. Art can be found outside, or inside; art is universal. However, after reading Duncan's "The Art Museum as Ritual," I find my general ideas of art and art museums changing. I find myself looking at the entire concept of art museums differently. That is why this assignment was challenging for me; analyzing the interior design of the Barrick…
I believe this painting shows a loss of identity. This is the reason I chose this as my favorite piece of art, because I can relate to it. There came a time in my life where I was struggling with my own identity. In today's world it is very significant to identify oneself with at least one thing (ones ethnicity, nationality, race, religion, or a particular belief). Many people still grapple with the notion of identity in many countries, regions, and various ways in order to fit or adapt into any environment (social, economic, cultural, political, etc). One’s identity determines ones position or situation in society wherever one lives. However, finding the right type of…
